What is telephone call anxiety?

Do you ever have moments when the phone starts to ring and you question whether you should pick up the call or let it ring and end up disconnected? We could have call anxiety as a result of this. When we are anxious, we experience extreme anxiety and fear about particular circumstances. Anxiety and experiencing panic episodes are both strongly correlated with overthinking. In these situations, we tend to view everything negatively and begin to worry that we are not in control of the situation. Therapist Alison Seponara listed a few indications of phone call anxiety and described how it feels and looks.

Here are some signs of anxiety:

Fear of making a mistake: We may feel unprepared when the phone starts to ring out of the blue, especially if we are not ready to have a discussion. On the phone, we could worry that we'll say the incorrect thing and aggravate the predicament.

Awkward silence: We anticipate having to experience periods of awkward quiet throughout the phone conversation before we even pick up the phone. Additionally, we worry that we will have to stop the call and the conversation at some time, which just adds to our anxiety.

Emergency: Since we don't receive many calls from individuals, we believe that they are contacting us with an emergency, which we are not prepared to handle.

Cover up the anxiety: There are instances when our mental state may not be suitable for a discussion. Additionally, we believe that if we accept the call, we will have to work harder to hide our fear.

Practice the conversation: Since we are never prepared to accept a phone call, we feel the need to practice it beforehand before speaking to the other person.
